TOPFIT
Under the name TOPFIT Impact Programme, the University of Twente, Wageningen University & Research, Radboud University and RadboudUMC join together in an impact programme aimed at preventing and reducing disease and the burden of disease.
Framework
Much progress has been made in recent years in understanding disease processes and the development of new treatment methods. At the same time, the realization that many diseases will remain incurable for the foreseeable future grows. Through smart integration of innovative technologies and knowledge about nutrition and health we can be one step ahead of disease and its burdens.
These integral solutions mean that there will be an ever more personal approach in healthcare. The payoff is a maximum increase in the quality of life of patients and the best perspective on affordable healthcare in an aging society. The goal of the TopFit programme is to contribute to controlling and limiting the cost of healthcare in the future, without making concessions to the quality of life of patients.
TOPFIT aspires to be a leading health impact programme on three levels: society & health, innovation & (regional) economy and science & technology. Therefore, the researchers work together with key partners in the east of the Netherlands.
TOPFIT deploys a programmatic approach, aiming at moonshots at a timescale of >10 years, organised in dynamic (disease oriented) mission driven programmes that deliver impact for social innovation, health system innovation, economic growth and further scientific excellence, at a time scale of >5 years. Immediate results within 2 years are new coalitions of health, food and tech expertises that serve social impact and citizen science, new business development and scale ups, and challenging new combinations in scientific excellence.
Diabetes on Return
In Europe around 60 million people suffer from Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and in the Netherlands this number is around 1.2 million. About 90% of these suffer from Type 2 Diabetes.
Cardiovascular Diseases
The development of cardiovascular disease takes several decades, whilst it only takes milliseconds for a serious problem to occur, such as myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest.
Movement Disorders
The mission programme Movement disorders supports the Interdisciplinary Consortium for clinical Movement Sciences & technology (ICMS). ICMS is aimed at improving the quality of life.
In these mission-driven programmes, TOPFIT closely cooperates with Health Valley and the Health Innovation Park (HIP) on valorisation, business cooperation, dissemination and branding, with the OnePlanet Centre on key technologies in health and food, and with the interdisciplinary consortium for clinical movement sciences & technology (ICMS).
