<p>Eastern Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia showcased their joint innovation strength in Brussels through TECH.LAND. During a European meeting on the role of higher education institutions in regional innovation ecosystems, partners from both regions shared their experiences and formulated recommendations for the European Commission.</p><p>The meeting aligns with the ambition of Think East Netherlands to strengthen cross-border cooperation and act jointly towards European policymakers.</p><h2>Recommendations for European innovation ecosystems</h2><p>The central topic was how knowledge institutions, businesses and governments can work together to address social and economic challenges. The main outcome: a clear call to support regional innovation ecosystems more strongly and over the long term.</p><p>The following recommendations were shared with the European Commission:</p><ul><li>Recognise not only the economic impact, but also the social impact of research and innovation.</li><li>Embed the role of higher education institutions more firmly in European and national innovation and valorisation strategies.</li><li>Invest in long-term visions and strategic ecosystems.</li><li>Provide more continuity in funding for cooperation and research.</li><li>Create more recognition for valorisation and the societal engagement of researchers.Continue investing in collaboration between knowledge institutions, businesses and governments.<br>&nbsp;</li></ul><h2>TECH.LAND as a cross-border example</h2><p>The contribution of TECH.LAND showed how Eastern Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia are jointly building a strong cross-border ecosystem. Its strength lies in the broad representation from education, business and regional development.</p><p>Melina Freudenthal of IHK Nord Westfalen brought in the business perspective from North Rhine-Westphalia. Ingrid Meijer of Oost NL highlighted the role of regional development from Eastern Netherlands. Hans Vossensteyn of Saxion University of Applied Sciences addressed the role of higher education.</p><p>Together, they demonstrated how shared ambitions, long-term cooperation and active partner involvement strengthen innovation across borders.</p><h2>Stronger representation in Brussels</h2><p>The meeting delivered more than knowledge exchange. TECH.LAND brought practical experience to the table, contributed to recommendations for European policy and strengthened the joint position of Eastern Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia in Brussels.</p>
