<p>Healthcare is a dynamic field. Digitalization, staff shortages, an aging population, and new forms of care call for professionals who continue to learn and adapt easily. That is why nineteen partners from seven European regions have been collaborating over the past four years on EUVECA: the European project for future-proof healthcare education.</p><p>This Erasmus+ project has now been successfully completed. The results remain available to healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and regional partners working to improve and optimize healthcare.</p><h2>Building Strong Healthcare Regions Together&nbsp;</h2><p>EUVECA brought together educational institutions, healthcare organizations, governments, and businesses—not based on theory, but on real-world practice. Regional hubs were established in seven European regions where partners collaborated to develop training programs, share knowledge, and test new learning methods.</p><blockquote><p>Thanks to EUVECA, Dutch partners are able to connect more quickly, expertise is effectively exchanged, and collaboration within the healthcare and education sectors has been noticeably strengthened. — Tessa Dijkgraaf, project manager at Health Oost NL</p></blockquote><p>The focus was on the skills that healthcare professionals need now and in the future. These include digital skills, cross-organizational collaboration, innovation in practice, and continuing to learn throughout one’s career. In doing so, EUVECA achieved its primary goal: demonstrating that strong vocational education and lifelong learning make the healthcare sector more agile—not only at the European level, but especially at the regional level.</p><h2>Tangible, lasting results</h2><p>The project delivered tangible results. For example, the partners developed regional Vocational Excellence Hubs, learning activities, simulation-based training, and new educational approaches centered on digitalization and AI.</p><p>A key outcome is the European learning environment Education4Health. This platform connects knowledge, training programs, and partners from various regions. Even after EUVECA concludes, this environment will remain available to anyone working on future-oriented healthcare education.</p><blockquote><p>The platform is an effective tool for raising broader awareness of educational activities and further strengthening collaboration with European partners in the field of healthcare and societal challenges. — Marloes Postel, associate lecturer at Saxion University of Applied Sciences</p></blockquote><p>In addition, the project led to new collaborations. For example, partners from Lübeck visited the Eastern Netherlands to exchange knowledge. A joint European grant application for a follow-up project was also developed, ensuring that the collaboration will have a concrete next step.</p><h2>Connecting Europe with the Eastern Netherlands</h2><p>Oost NL played a connecting role within EUVECA. We brought European knowledge and regional practice closer together. In our role as regional coordinator, partner, connector, and facilitator, we linked education, healthcare, innovation, and policy. In this way, we helped raise the profile of regional initiatives, share knowledge more quickly, and initiate new collaborations.</p><p>This offers opportunities for entrepreneurs and organizations in the healthcare sector. New technology, smart training, and collaboration with educational institutions help bring innovations into practice more quickly.</p><h2>From Conclusion to Next Steps</h2><p>This regional collaboration was clearly evident at the closing event, “The Adaptive Healthcare Professional,” held on April 14, 2026, at the University of Twente. During this gathering, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, policymakers, and regional initiatives came together to address the question: How can we effectively prepare healthcare professionals for a healthcare landscape that is constantly changing?</p><p>Seven initiatives shared their approaches. In workshops, participants worked on real-world challenges from the field. The afternoon yielded new connections, concrete ideas, and a great deal of energy. There was a strong desire to continue this initiative. TZA, the Technology &amp; Healthcare Academy, will take on the organization of the next edition.</p><p>Thus, EUVECA does not end as a completed project, but as a starting point for new collaboration. The knowledge, networks, and learning activities developed will remain available. Even after the project period, EUVECA will continue to support the professionals, organizations, and entrepreneurs working on the healthcare of tomorrow.</p><p>Want to learn more?
