<p>Wageningen University &amp; Research (WUR) has been selected as a partner in a European research project in the latest round of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder Challenges. The project, led by KeyGene, is part of a select group of 30 projects that will receive a total of €118 million in European funding.</p><p>The selection followed a highly competitive call with 647 submitted proposals. Only a limited number of projects were awarded funding, with an average contribution of approximately €3.9 million per project.</p><h2>Focus on climate-resilient agriculture</h2><p>The project focuses on biotechnological innovations for climate-resilient crops and sustainable production. It directly contributes to future-proof agriculture and food security—areas in which WUR and KeyGene are internationally leading.</p><h2>Strong position of the Netherlands and East Netherlands</h2><p>WUR’s participation highlights the strong position of the Netherlands—and East Netherlands in particular—within European innovation programmes. In this EIC round, three projects are led by Dutch organisations, confirming the competitiveness of the national ecosystem.</p><p>For East Netherlands, this selection is strategically important. The region brings together knowledge institutions, companies, and partnerships in agri-food and life sciences. The involvement of WUR and KeyGene demonstrates how this collaboration translates into concrete results at the European level.</p><h2>Strengthening Europe’s innovation capacity</h2><p>This project contributes to the development of breakthrough technologies with both societal and economic impact.
